The Tully Trail winds through some of the most beautiful and demanding terrain in the region, including waterfalls, forests, wetlands, rocky climbs, historic woods roads, Tully Mountain, and conserved lands throughout the North Quabbin.

While the traditional Tully Trail loop is often described as 22 miles, the current route is closer to 24 miles.

Participants are encouraged to choose a goal that fits their ability and training. Completing the full route is not the only measure of success. Alternate finish points and shorter options allow hikers to make smart decisions based on weather, pace, fatigue, and how they are feeling on event day.

The Challenge

More Than A Day

The Tully Trail Challenge begins long before event day.

Participants receive approximately four months of progressive training support beginning in February, including:

  • Progressive hiking mileage

  • Group training hikes

  • Hiking-specific strength and conditioning

  • Uphill and downhill preparation

  • Fueling and hydration education

  • Foot care and blister prevention

  • Gear and navigation guidance

  • Event preparation and safety information

  • Community support and encouragement

The Inaugural Challenge

The first Tully Trail Challenge was held in June 2026 and brought together 25 hikers for a demanding day on the trail.

Temperatures climbed into the upper 80s, and participants faced approximately 24 miles of challenging terrain. Some completed the entire route, while others chose alternate finish points or reached significant personal mileage goals.

The day was made possible by an incredible group of volunteers, sponsors, community members, Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, the North Quabbin Trails Association, and other local supporters.

What stood out most was the spirit of the event: perseverance, encouragement, smart decision-making, and discovering what you are capable of.

Looking Ahead to 2027

The 2027 Challenge will build on everything learned during the inaugural event while preserving the supportive, community-centered experience that made the first year so special.

Expect expanded training resources, refined navigation materials, stronger volunteer coordination, additional event-day support, and continued collaboration with local conservation and trail organizations.
